Major Tasks, Responsibilities & Key Accountabilities

  • Perform tax quality control review of medium to advanced level business and individual tax returns to ensure completeness and accuracy
  • Successfully research complex tax issues, applying findings to projects and clearly communicate those findings in writing
  • Keeps current on tax laws, accounting standards, and related education
  • Assist in the training, development, management, retention, and recruitment of professional staff
  • Understand client service relationships and how to utilize firm resources to provide unmatched client service to existing clients
  • Monitors and communicates with partners on the progress and timely completion of projects

Title: Staff Accountant
FLSA Status: Exempt
Compensation Grade: $67,000 - $74,000
Office Location: Maple Grove, MN
Reports to: Partners / Directors

Position Purpose

The Staff Accountant is responsible for preparing efficient, accurate, and timely tax returns and financial statements for all assigned clients, assist with bookkeeping, research and consulting projects for closely held small businesses. Manage client workload and assignments for seniors throughout the year. Maintain and expand knowledge through both internal and external continuing education courses relevant to performance of duties and responsibilities. Identify areas of specialized interest where you may become a key resource to the firm (industry, tax or acctg, software, current events). In this role you will attend 2-3 Practice Development activities per month.

  • Prepare client correspondence, letters, emails, or other communication on a regular basis
  • Build relationships with clients by providing superior client services

Position Purpose

This Internship is designed to expose future leaders of public accounting to not only our partners, but also to our business and how we empower our clients’ businesses. Our trendsetting interns learn hands-on what it takes to be a staff accountant for a growing CPA firm by tackling a variety of different assignments, including audit, tax preparation and research. BWK believes in giving our interns a real-life business experience.

Major Tasks, Responsibilities & Key Accountabilities

  • Complete tax and/or audit engagements for designated clients as directed
  • Gain an understanding of work flow, processes and tax & accounting software
  • Develop effective client relationships
  • Prepares beginning and medium level individual and business tax returns (1040, 1065, 1120s and 1120)

As a Bookkeeper you will be providing a variety of basic accounting and bookkeeping services for clients. These duties are commonly performed in-house and include processing of financial information.

Major Tasks, Responsibilities & Key Accountabilities:

Accounts Payable processing including coding, entering bills, and generating payments

Code and enter credit card activity and reconcile account

Code and enter checks and deposits

Bank reconciliations

Process client payrolls - live and after the fact and make payroll tax payments

Prepare quarterly and annual payroll tax returns

Calculate and make sales tax payments

Make payroll journal entries

Analyzes and tests accuracy and reasonableness of work completed and information presented

Communicates with team lead for timely and cost effective completion of projects

Achieves chargeable budgeted time goals

Assists clients with set up or training on accounting software

Title: Senior Tax Manager – Estate, Trust and Gift

Major Tasks, Responsibilities & Key Accountabilities
  • Manage and grow this practice area within the Firm.
  • Perform tax quality control review of estate, trust, gift and high net worth individual tax returns to ensure completeness and accuracy.
  • Provide expert technical guidance on estate and trust taxation, generation-skipping transfer tax (GSTT), and wealth transfer strategies.
  • Oversee the preparation and review of Forms 706 (Estate Tax), 709 (Gift Tax), and 1041 (Fiduciary Income Tax).
  • Collaborate with clients and their advisors to develop and implement estate plans.
  • Analyze wills, trust agreements, and related legal documents for tax implications.
  • Supervise, mentor and support staff working on estate and trust engagements.
  • Identify tax planning opportunities and deliver proactive, client-focused solutions.
  • Stay current on developments in estate and gift tax law and communicate relevant updates to clients and internal teams.
  • Work in close coordination with the tax and financial planning teams to ensure integrated client service delivery.
